Steve was educated in Belfast, Northern Ireland and after leaving school he attended university in Edinburgh where he studied Business and Economics.

After leaving university, Steve joined the police where he has now worked for fourteen years. He has been a firearms officer for nine years and is currently a firearms instructor in the Firearms Support Unit.

Steve previously played rugby, having represented Ulster and Ireland Under 21s, Irish Exiles and the British Police. Since retiring from the sport, he has taken up running and had posted impressive times in a number of marathons and half-marathons. He has previous valuable expedition experience gained during a climbing/ canoeing trip to the French Alps.
