Our team are attempting to raise in excess of £20,000.00 for Cancer Research UK. The money raised will be donated to scientists' research into the causes of and cures for cancer.
- 250,000 people are diagnosed with cancer every year in the UK.
- 1 in 3 people are likely to be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.
- In the UK, the most common types of cancer are breast, lung and prostate cancer.
- 32,000 men in Scotland every year are diagnosed with prostate cancer.
- Each year 44,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer; that's more than 100 women per day.
- Cancer Research UK is the largest single organisation involved in cancer research within the UK and supports the work or over 4,000 doctors, scientists and nurses throughout the UK.
- £89.00 will fund one scientist for one day in the field of cancer research.
We are running for Cancer Research UK because we have all experienced the trauma and anguish of friends and loved ones suffering at the hands of this unforgiving disease. Running marathons may have become almost commonplace, however, the Marathon Des Sables is widely accepted as being the most difficult to complete. We wish to show our commitment to Cancer Research UK by completing this event and pushing ourselves to our physical and mental limits.
Donating through Just Giving is straightforward. Simply click on the Just Giving logo on this page, and you will be taken directly to their website. Your details are always secure when making a donation through this site. Also, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your donation at no cost to you. (Cancer Research UK advise using Justgiving for online donations). All of the funds raised will go directly to Cancer Research UK.
Please donate generously and all contributions will be gratefully received.
Many thanks to our corporate sponsors who are already giving us their support - please click here for details.
